Team Peach for the Win! MIX's Sarah King Takes KBS Kup Victory

Team Peach for the win! WRAL-FM's Sarah King (center), WRAL-TV's Elizabeth Gardner (right) & MIX Listener Erika came out victorious in the KBS Cup Race at Crabtree on Saturday, April 15, 2023. MIX 101.5 put together the fun in honor of the new Mario Bros movie.

A couple hundred MIX listeners showed up at Crabtree for some video-game-meets-blockbuster-movie fun on Saturday morning, April 15, 2023. MIX Mornings' Kyle Smelser, Bryan Lord and Sarah King donned costumes and grabbed a few friends and went head-to-head for some silly fun for the KBS Kup Race. Princess Peach Sarah and her all-girl crew came out victorious!

It was an incredible morning of fun! said WRAL-FM Brand Manager Chris Edge. Everybody had such a great time!

The triumphant King, playing a Princess, ruled the day.

We had such a great time. Team Peach was strong! said King. We went into the event ready to do our best and have a great time, and as it turned out our best was better than anyone else's!

King teamed up with WRAL-TV Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner and MIX Listener Erika to take on the course.

The three teams, led by Sarah, Kyle as Mario, Bryan as Luigi, each competed in three races with three laps each that were relay style. The winner was the best out of three.

Gardner was thrilled to be part of the hilarity. She told Capcom all about the event and how she got involved:

It all started with Brian asking me to be on his team. but I just couldn't resist Team Peach!!! We had so much fun! Kyle Brian, Sarah and the team over at MIX 101.5 pulled out all the stops to create a really fun event.

We rode adult tricycles on a course they built at Crabtree Mall. We had to dodge water balloons, silly string and color bombs along the course. The tricycles are designed to drift (spin out) so that made it extra exciting! At one point I spun out and ran into Wool E Bull oooops!!!

It was a two out of three match up but Team Peach took the first two heats. Nuf said. Lots of listeners and viewers came out to watch us act silly. I love that Sarah, Brian and Kyle can come up with such a creative, out of the box idea and turn it into a great event!!

Team Luigi consisted of MIX's Bryan Lord with 99.9 The Fan Sports Talk Host Joe Ovies and Wool E. Bull. Team Mario, led by MIX's Kyle Smelser, also included MIX Listener Megan and IG Influencer @Experience_Raleigh. They fought valiantly but were no match for Princess Peach and her crew.

Crabtree was presenting sponsor for the fun event. MIX gave away prizes from several great Crabtree

retailers such as Build-a-Bear Workshop, Forever 21, GameStop, Lego, Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics, Mrs. Fields, and Ultimate Comics!

Above all, all of us who took part in the race were thrilled by the turnout, said King. We had listeners who came from Fayettville, Sanford, and beyond! Everyone had huge smiles on their faces. What a fun morning! And to win the whole thing was a huge bonus! Team Peach for the Win!
