Kumaresh wins the Superstar Endrum 16'

Kuala Lumpur, 21st November 2016 The grand finale for singing competition Superstar Endrum 16' has finally crowned its winner, Kumaresh Kamalakannan which was broadcasted live on Astro Vinmeen HD (Ch 231), Astro Vaanavil (Ch 201) and Astro on the Go (AOTG) from Dewan Raja Muda Musa, Seksyen 7, Shah Alam.

The 22-year-old champion hailing from Kuala Lumpur received the grand prize of RM20,000 in cash as well as a brand new Honda HRV while Naarayani Balasubramaniam, 24 of Penang and Rubenraj Samuel, 23 of Perak, received the second and third prizes of RM15,000 and RM10,000 respectively.

The evening kick started with a grand performance of the classical hit Endrum 16 which was given a breath of fresh air by local music composer Jay and sang by Akademi Fantasia (AF) alumni Akim and Reshma, Astro's Ceria Popstar Kashika, Malaysian artists - Darkey, Vicnaes Jay, Queen, Hariharan, Hasmitha, Daraneswary and Attam 100 Vagai's Magen.

The grand finale saw the six finalists go head to head in two elimination rounds. The first round had the six finalists perform their selected songs where two, Alex Rao and Pomathipriya were eliminated. The battle intensified in the second round as the remaining four finalists had to perform two versions of the same song (unplugged and remix) where Kumaresh and Naarayani advanced to the next round with the highest marks, where Kumaresh emerged as the winner following his outstanding vocal performance.

The finalists were judged performance and vocal wise by industry experts; renowned Indian actor and singer Krish, singer Mathangi Jagdish and local music composer Jay. The three-hour event was co-hosted by TV personalities Kumaresh and Vaanavil's 360 program host Revathy and will repeat on Astro Vaanavil in December.
