The IABM has reviewed a number of IEC TC100 Standards development documents supplied over the last 2 months and would like to draw members attention to the following documents that may be relevant to their products:
New IEC 61937 Parts covering AC-4 and MPEG-H Audio carriage over IEC 60958 (the consumer version of AES3) The IEC 61937 suite of documents defines a method for carrying "non-linear PCM-encoded audio bitstreams" (this usually means compressed audio) over the IEC 60958 interface, together with details of how particular formats are handled. Drafts for two more Parts have been submitted for AC-4 and for MPEG-H Audio. At the moment, the two documents both propose the same data type code (this is what distinguishes the formats being carried and must therefore be unique) and so this will have to be resolved in Part 2 of the suite, defining the data types, which has been opened for revision.
Also, projects for similar documents in SMPTE to define the carriage of these two formats in AES3 are underway. There has been some effort to harmonize the IEC 61937 work for the consumer domain with the SMPTE work for the Professional domain. It is hoped that this will continue with these documents.
IEC 60958 Professional Digital Audio Interface The Professional Interface is defined in Part 4 of IEC 60958, and was based on AES3. However, AES3 has been split into 4 Parts and it was planned to do the same with the IEC standard by introducing Parts 4-1, 4-2, 4-3 and 4-4. On review, it was found that Part 4-3 duplicated large amounts of another Part of the IEC standard (Part 1: General) and so the Professional Interface will now be defined by:
Part 4-1: Digital audio interface-Professional applications-Audio content
Part 4-2: Digital audio interface-Professional applications-Metadata and subcode
Part 4-4: Digital audio interface-Professional applications-Physical and electrical
Proposed IEC 62766 suite: Open IPTV Forum (OIPF) Consumer Terminal Function and Network Interfaces for Access to IPTV and Open Internet Multimedia Services This suite of documents is planned to include:
Part 1: Overview
Part 2-1: Media Formats
Part 2-2: HTTP Adaptive Streaming
Part 3: Content Metadata
Part 4-1: Protocols
Part 4-2: Examples of IPTV Protocol Sequences
Part 5-1: Declarative Application Environment
Part 5-2: Web Standards TV Profile
Part 6: Procedural Application Environment
Part 7: Authentication, Content Protection and Service Protection
Part 8: Profiles
In the last 2 months, TC100 has approved projects to work on the Parts shown bold above. Projects to develop the remaining Parts are expected to be approved.
UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS INTERFACES FOR DATA AND POWER
IEC TC100 has been standardizing the USB interface. It will be a great advantage for this ubiquitous interface to be openly, publicly documented especially as it is commonly used for the transfer of audio and video streams. The following four documents have been approved for publication as an International Standard:

Part 2-1 - Universal Serial Bus Specification, Revision 2.0
Part 2-2 - Universal Serial Bus - Micro-USB Cables and Connectors Specification, Revision 1.01
Part 2-3 - Universal Serial Bus Cables and Connectors Class Document Revision 2.0
