17 May World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 17.05.2013

On May 17, 2013 is the 44th anniversary of signing of the first International Telegraph Convention and creation of the International Telecommunication Union.

The purpose of World of Telecommunication and Information Society Day is to increase the level of awareness about the possibilities, which the usage of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) opens for the societies and countries as well as about the ways of bridging of the digital divide.

Doctor Hamadoun I. Tour , the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), directed his key message to the world community on the topic: ICTs and improving road safety .

Road safety is a world problem not only in terms of public health and injury prevention but also for the increase of effectiveness of road traffic organization as a means of combating with the influence of climate change.

The International Telecommunication Union heads the efforts undertaking in the world on the development of up-to-date standards of information and communication technologies for the intelligent transport systems and safety of drivers.

It is interesting to know: Annually the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union promulgates the theses, relevant for the whole world community, calling to turn attention to the important problems, connected with social processes of informatization and development of telecommunication technologies.
