Jennifer Agiesta promoted to director of polling for AP The following memo was sent today to the AP Washington news staff by Bureau Chief Sally Buzbee:
I'm very pleased to announce that Jennifer Agiesta has been promoted to director of polling for AP. Jenn has done a wonderful job of shepherding our polling efforts since the departure of Trevor Tompson this summer, most recently coordinating exit poll efforts companywide around Election Day and keeping us sane on polls in the last frantic weeks of the campaign.
As you know, AP's polling operations include several partnerships, including with GfK for the AP-GfK poll and also polling we do through the new AP-NORC partnership now headed by Tompson. We expect Jenn to be the point person for developing strategy on our polling priorities going forward, working closely with AP journalists to strengthen our journalism through effective use of polling. She also will serve as a companywide resource on AP's polling standards and practices, serving as a go-to person and resource on polling for all bureaus globally.
I should note that Jenn is also a fluid and graceful writer and we hope her byline continues to appear with regularity.
Jennifer joined AP as deputy director of polling in August 2010, from the Washington Post. At the Post, she served as polling analyst for three years, helping the paper's polling operation expand its profile through the Behind the Numbers blog.
Her 12-year career has also included positions outside of the media, working with private clients on messaging and communications strategy research at Belden Russonello & Stewart and Greenberg Quinlan Rosner. Jennifer also managed several aspects of exit polling in 2002 and 2004 with Edison Research of Somerville, N.J., and Voter News Service of Brooklyn, N.Y.
She is a native of Long Island, N.Y., and a graduate of Washington and Lee University, where she studied politics and print journalism.
