Talented actor Simphiwe Majozi reveals that his fan-favourite character Sbu Makhathini will be taking a dark turn in Uzalo.

SBU HAS BEEN A COMIC RELIEF ON THE SHOW The Uzalo actor Simphiwe Majozi, who is famously known for playing Sbu in the SABC1 soapie tells City Press:

It has been challenging. It is the number one show in [the country], so you have to keep up with the standard. You can't drop the ball - and not just me; no one can.

Sbu was the comic relief of the show and now I'm being joined by Mbatha [played by Thabo Mnguni] as more comic relief, so that pressure doesn't fall on me alone. It feels great to be part of the show still.

Viewers of the SABC1 soapie will see Sbu buying himself a car as he begins to taste the good life

He thinks this new avenue is better as he doesn't steal or shoot anyone, but it's still bad, as he's laundering money, but he thinks it's better, as nobody gets hurt. He can change his lifestyle to one he has always wanted.

Majozi admits that going from a funny guy to a money launderer has been a tough journey.

The viewers will see parts of him being a darker character, where he becomes cocky. So even when his girlfriend feels like he doesn't have time for her and she leaves, he's like, cool, go then'.

SIMPHIWE MAJOZI CREDITS UZALO' WRITERS The Durban-based actor and musician Simphiwe Majozi credits Uzalo writers for always digging deeper.

The writers always go all out to make sure we have different storylines. I think that, so far, I like the growth and changes that Sbu has gone through - from having a girlfriend such as Fikile [played by Nelisa Mchunu], Sbu's ex who was like a female version of him, to now dating this lady named Hlelo [played by Nothando Ngcobo]. So, now it's very different for Sbu.

The star looks forward to his character's development as this might be the most dramatic change viewers will see from Sbu.

He's also grateful for the time he has enjoyed on the SABC1 soapie Uzalo since it began in 2015.

I enjoy teamwork - it is very different from other productions. I'm not saying other productions aren't good, but it is pleasant to be on that set.

I have been on other productions, especially in theatre, which is where I started. So, I have seen how most sets and productions work. But the teamwork and respect between cast and crew members and the production team are amazing.
