RT 2fm Gets Behind Irish Music in a Packed Summer Schedule 18th June 2014: RT 2fm gets behind Irish Music in packed Summer schedule as Eoghan McDermott joins 2fm line-up

RT 2fm today announces its scorching-hot summer schedule. Showcasing the best of live music in Ireland, 2fm promises to be at the heart of the Irish summer.

Speaking at an event celebrating some of the biggest and best festivals that Ireland has to offer, Head of 2fm Dan Healy said: We're going to be broadcasting live from some of Ireland's most electrifying music, comedy and sports festivals this summer: Electric Picnic, Sea Sessions, Castlepalooza, the Vodafone Comedy Festival and the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series to name but a few. We're excited about what's ahead and we wanted to hold this event today to kick it off in style and bring everyone along for the ride with us just like we'll be doing on-air all summer long.

2fm is also announcing that Eoghan McDermott will be joining its regular schedule. Another cog in the New 2fm' wheel, Eoghan will present a weekend breakfast show on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Eoghan is best-known as Kathryn Thomas's co-host on RT One's The Voice of Ireland while also presenting Xfm Drivetime in the UK. The start date for Weekend Breakfast with Eoghan McDermott will be announced shortly.

Speaking at today's launch, Eoghan McDermott said: I had an amazing two years on UK radio finding and backing new music, where we picked up a nomination for best new UK radio show for our troubles - now its time to champion some of the great Irish talent on the legendary 2fm. A massive station where some of the greats have resided and right now a bit of an underdog. Exciting times.

Eoghan will be joining the station during an exciting period of change. As part of the new schedule, 2fm promises listeners more live music, comedy and sports content than ever before, with the following festivals and events all pencilled in for this summer:

In addition to taking to the festival circuit, 2fm will be supporting Irish music in a big way, bringing audiences the best homegrown acts including, but not limited to, the incredible musicians who performed at the summer schedule launch today: The Riptide Movement, Hometown, Wallis Bird, Gavin James, The Academics and Daithi.

DriveBy with Colm Hayes will be running a series called Festival Fridays: a series of Friday evening specials featuring the best acts of Irish festivals 2014.

Ireland's musical appetite will be reflected on The National Chart Show with Mark McCabe, which gauges the musical pulse of the nation each and every Friday night.

2fm's Play the Picnic with Oxfam is a major nationwide search for 10 of Ireland's best up-and-coming musical acts to win a coveted live set at the country's biggest music festival, Electric Picnic. One lucky finalist (group or individual) will go on to play The Cosby Stage at EP and win a studio session at 2fm, giving them even more industry and public exposure

2fm's Scrappage Scheme with Volkswagen Golf is coming to an end with the grand finale this Friday 20 July at Gannon's Scrap Yard. Four listeners will have their cars scrapped by the car crusher' live on Breakfast Republic (7-9am) and only one of them will drive away in a brand new VW Golf.

2fm has been making changes since earlier this year with schedule shake-ups and new shows such as Breakfast Republic, The Nicky Byrne Show, The Louise McSharry Show, Chris & Ciara, Early, Early Breakfast with Lottie Ryan and now, Eoghan McDermott's weekend breakfast show being added to the bill. Now, at the beginning of summer 2014, 2fm is truly a station that reflects the nation's desire for entertainment and chat that keeps you in the car long after the engine has cooled down, genuinely funny comedy that has you laughing out loud, and music that keeps you listening all day and dancing all night long.
