Feature Documentary Follows Military Historian Norm Christie Who Searches for a Canadian Battlefield Cemetery That Vanished After the First World War, 100 Years Ago
TORONTO, CANADA (April 3, 2017) Breakthrough Entertainment announces the Canadian national broadcast premiere of Searching for Vimy's Lost Soldiers' on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on HISTORY, to coincide with the 100-year anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge.
This is a great mystery story for the ages, one that has the raw emotional power to move us today, said Peter Williamson, Partner and Executive Producer at Breakthrough Entertainment.
The iconic Canadian military battle that took place during the First World War saw 3600 Canadians killed in the assault on Vimy Ridge from April 9 to 12, 1917. Situated in northern France, the heavily-fortified seven-kilometre ridge held a commanding view over the Allied lines. The Canadians would be perilously assaulting over an open graveyard since previous French attacks had failed with over 100,000 casualties.' Searching for Vimy's Lost Soldiers', a program to commemorate this hard-fought battle, is produced by Breakthrough Entertainment, in association with Corus Entertainment for HISTORY.
Searching for Vimy's Lost Soldiers, directed by Peter Williamson and written by Norm Christie, is a 90-minute documentary special following historian Christie on his quest to locate and recover the missing cemetery, known in 1917 as CA40, and how, over the past 3 years, supported by a grass roots funding campaign, he has pushed the project forward so that the remains of these brave Canadian Soldiers can finally be recovered and given a proper military burial. After exhaustive research and on-the-ground investigation, Christie is convinced he knows what happened to their mass grave, lost 100 years ago. Joined by a team of Geophysicists, bomb disposal experts, and the families of the lost soldiers, Christie is determined to find the missing men and give them the proper commemoration they deserve. Geophysicists work on the old battlefield, the families retrace the footsteps of their lost relatives, and they begin to understand what befell their Men on that fateful morning in 1917, and start to realize the profound effects on their own lives that happened there. Searching for Vimy's Lost Soldiers is a unique and powerful testament to a lost generation of Canadians, and a tribute to their immortal sacrifices.
