KBS has a big presence in Paris. The crew of more than 70 includes 15 producers (around 20 are working back home in Seoul), and eight reporters and eight ENG crews are covering all the action but also zeroing in on key sports for the South Korean market - particularly, fencing, swimming, and archery - and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

According to Choi Ho Kyong, outside broadcasting technical team leader in Paris, KBS is bringing in all the signals from OBS via SDI and producing two channels of 1080p50 content at the IBC here (converting them to 1080p60 to Korea). The two channels are over-the-air, and all the signals are produced out of two production galleries - one for each of the TV channels - in the IBC and are sent ready for air. A master-control room manages all the incoming feeds.

Although other rightsholders are transmitting a wide range of signals and producing at home, KBS says that producing the show in Paris means less bandwidth is required to get the content to Korea. Seven fiber channels send content for two terrestrial channels, cable channels, and news distribution.

The eight ENG crews use LiveU to send the signals directly to South Korea. And, although the KBS space within the IBC has room for a studio, the broadcaster decided to capitalize on the wealth of iconic backdrops across Paris, and two hosts are roaming Paris and recording introductions for upcoming programming and more.

Commentary is done onsite for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies as well as for swimming, fencing, and archery. About 10 commentary teams are calling other events off-tube in Seoul.
