Kickstarter is pleased to announce an exciting partnership with Berlinale Talents, an initiative of the Berlin International Film Festival (known as the Berlinale) taking place February 13-18, 2016.
The partnership's primary goal will be to nurture and engage creative talent. Since 2003, Berlinale Talents has been the festival's creative academy, summit, and networking platform for up-and-coming film professionals from around the globe. The summit runs for six days during the Berlinale and offers a wide variety of program elements such as master classes, panel discussions, workshops, and various hands-on training and script development programs for three hundred invited film professionals from twelve fields of work, as well as the cinema-loving audiences of Berlin. This new partnership is part of Kickstarter's ongoing initiative to provide education and mentorship opportunities for emerging talent in the film community.
The Kickstarter + Berlinale Talents network partnership will open up campaign support to the initiative's alumni network of more than six thousand directors, writers, producers, and film professionals who choose to launch Kickstarter campaigns. Alumni can engage and work directly with Kickstarter's Film team to receive mentorship and support for Film projects launched during the partnership. After the festival, Kickstarter will also host quarterly online engagement events to work with the Berlinale Talents' extensive film community.
Kickstarter's Senior Film Outreach Lead Dan Schoenbrun will lead a Meet the Expert session during the Berlinale and help mentor, advise, and share insider knowledge with filmmakers about how to successfully utilize Kickstarter to create successful campaigns. In addition, a page focusing on Berlinale Talents will launch on Kickstarter to showcase prime projects in development.
Berlinale Talents is an expertly curated, truly international summit that arms emerging artists with the tools they need to get through the filmmaking process, says Schoenbrun. Were so excited and honored to be working in partnership with the Berlinale Talents program, and to be aligning with one of the worlds most respected festivals with the shared goal of helping artists get bold new works made.
A number of Kickstarter alumni have also been selected to be a part of the 2016 lineup, including Donari Braxton (Out of My Hands), Kimberly Parker (Shes Lost Control), Scott Cummings (Buffalo Juggalos), Jonathan David Kane (Papa Machete), and more. More than one hundred Berlinale Talents alumni have worked this year on eighty-four official Berlinale films, among them Kickstarter-supported projects like Kivalina by Gina Abatemarco.
