Alberta, Canada, 6 September 2013: NAIT, a leading Polytechnic in Canada renowned for its nationally accredited engineering, media and applied research, has invested in SGO's Mistika. NAIT DMIT (Digital Media and IT) is the only transmedia school of its kind in Canada, and has chosen the powerful and diverse Mistika software to enhance its digital media curriculum and content creation programs in Stereoscopic 3D and 2D. Students in NAIT's DMIT program will gain hands-on experience with the latest digital editing software owing to a partnership with SGO, developers of the award-winning Mistika technology.
NAIT has created a dedicated SGO Mistika Lab within the HP Centre for Information and Communications Technology at Main Campus. Students will have access to 25 training stations beginning in the 2013-14 academic year. NAIT is one of the only post-secondary institutions in North America to offer this technology, said Bill Yaremko, dean of the School of Information, Communication, and Engineering Technologies. NAIT prides itself on offering programs that are relevant and responsive to the emerging needs of industry. This new software will further prepare DMIT students for meaningful careers. They will be able to produce content as professional and sophisticated as their creative minds allow.
SGO's powerful and complete post production system Mistika provides creative editing, conforming, colour grading and visual effects in a single high-speed system. It is capable of working at any resolution from HD, 2K, 4K through to 8K in 2D or 3D content. While there are currently no video standards for Ultra HD, for example for projectors or monitors, Mistika is already capable of efficient file-based 8K workflows. The efficient software runs on off-the-shelf hardware at tremendous speeds enabling users to work in real time and its open technology allows for seamless integration.
Mistika is a revolutionary and award-winning asset for creative and ambitious organisations, states Geoff Mills, Director of SGO Global Sales and Operations. With high frame rates and 3D technology gaining momentum, we are pleased to partner with NAIT for the benefit of DMIT students.
Geoff adds further To be able to deliver something different and unique is a challenge and SGO shares NAIT's values where innovation is a key driving force. We are very excited that Mistika will also be involved in high profile research projects contributing to important medical and scientific breakthroughs. We feel honoured to be involved in playing a vital role in changing lives where Mistika will be utilised in new sectors. It is very important to educate on the use of leading edge equipment and to provide facilities for the marketplace to learn best practice and workflows. SGO is proud to assist NAIT in educational programs, where it will be providing resources and support to contribute to the community.
Mistika also played a major role in the world's first High Fame Rate (HFR) film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey for which it has been shortlisted for The IBC2013 Innovation Awards. Recent projects achieved using Mistika include Little Crackers at Onsight which has just recently won the 4th annual 3D Creative Arts International Jury Prize, Mr Stink (The BBC's first scripted Stereo 3D drama), Galapagos 3D, Kingdom of Plants 3D for Sky 3D TV including Inside the Mind of Leonardo for BSkyB. Mistika is also being used on the 50th Anniversary Special of Doctor Who for the BBC to be shown in Stereo 3D for the first time. Some of the recent cinema projects include Star Trek Into Darkness, The Great Gatsby and Jean-Pierre Jeunet's The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet with many more currently in production.
NAIT's DMIT program is a two-year diploma structured to enable students to focus on up to two areas of specialisation, including web design, graphic design, rich media design, video production, animation and game design. Students can build a pathway that is of interest to them and can create unique skill sets upon graduation making them highly versatile in the job market. The program has an impressive graduation employment rate of nearly 90 per cent.
