WGSA presents two day workshop with Peter Russell --

Peter Russell is a long-time story doctor in Hollywood whose clients include Imagine Films, HBO, Participant, Viacom, CBS Television and many more. He teaches film and television pilot creation at the MFA Screenwriting Program at Pepperdine University. He also teaches at UCLAs Entertainment Division of the Extension School (Teacher of the Year 2009).
In May 2016, Russell will present workshops on the Secret Patterns of Writing for Different Genres in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
Day one
Introduction: the nine elements of all great movie stories; the beats of a story (20 essential moments your script should have); and the Secrets of Writing for Television Drama , with an additional module on character-driven shows like True Detective Season 1.
Day two
The workshop will cover the secret patterns of multiple genres to clarify the functional differences in story structure between genres, as well as for the sake of comparison. Genre s include: thrillers (including mystery thrillers); horror; action; sci-fi / fantasy; and drama. The workshop will also cover why certain genres seem to be more popular than others from a sales perspective.
