Prime Focus develops new solutions for audio restoration.

As production companies constantly push the boundaries of acquisition with smaller, more versatile cameras, new audio challenges are emerging both in rushes and UGC. Prime Focus' audio department has developed a bespoke solution to deliver high quality audio that compensates for increasing instances of distortion and embedded 'noise'.

Head of Audio, Ben Hooper said, Prime Focus talented audio team has developed a new weapon in their audio restoration arsenal. By combining iZotope RX3, with our award winning Cedar Dialogue Noise Suppression and extensive Waves Restoration plug-ins, we can now deliver world class mixes from some slightly less than world class recordings.

The results have surpassed our expectation, distortion is becoming clear and reverb is greatly diminished. Already our team are grabbing the chance to use these new facilities on a wide range of programming.

Finding ways of solving this problem has given our clients new creative freedom with material that would have previously been avoided or, at best, subtitled. The opportunity to really put our new set up to the test came with the new series BritCam for Leopard Films, we needed a combination of tools to maximise our options on the programmes.

Dubbing mixer Phitz Hearne said We have found a solution to help us deal with the awesome challenges faced by footage on the current fly-on-the-wall series and, for the first time; we have found a combination of processes that successfully restore this material without unwanted artefacts.'

Stephanie Campbell, Series Producer of BritCam said, As so much of the material was self shot by non-professionals, there was a lot of work to be done in the dub and online and weve been really impressed by the team at Prime Focus who helped deliver a series which looked and sounded great.
