Just as Plug-in Collective does for Focusrite customers, Sound Collective provides Novation MIDI controller and synth owners with inspirational free plugins every two months, recent examples including a panoply of inspirational instruments and effects from the likes of iZotope, KV331 Audio, Serato and Roli. Running through June and July, Sound Collective's latest give-away is FrozenPlain's super intuitive MIDI harmonising and key/scale snapping plug-in, Obelisk - and now they're opening that offer up to all Plug-in Collective members as well.
Whether you're an electronic producer with only rudimentary grounding in music theory, or an experienced composer looking for creative inspiration, Obelisk makes an unmissable addition to your creative toolbox. Normally retailing for $25, this powerful plug-in for Mac and PC is free for Plug-in Collective members from 18th June to 6th August, and also comes with a 30% discount on FrozenPlain's Wraith soft synth.
Obelisk is a VST/AU plug-in that turns monophonic MIDI sequences into key/scale-constrained chord progressions, based on your specifications. Select the harmonic intervals you want to have automatically stacked above and/or below the incoming notes or load one of a variety of preset chords, then set a key and scale from a similarly comprehensive roster to constrain the chords to that tonal base. Your own custom chord shapes and scales can be saved and recalled, and for compositional flexibility, you can house up to four different setups in a single instance of Obelisk, enabling on-the-fly keyswitching between chords and scales as your track progresses.
The last played chord name is displayed at the top of the interface, too, giving the plug-in a secondary role as a handy analyser for manually played chords. All in all, Obelisk is an incredibly useful MIDI processor that will not only prove invaluable in bringing depth and musicality to your tracks, but is sure to improve your understanding of harmony in the process.
Sound Collective Product Manager Jonathan Campbell comments: This month's offer is Obelisk, from relatively small (but impressive) brand, FrozenPlain, and we couldn't be more delighted to be sharing the love with Plug-in Collective members, who can now also download this amazing compositional tool for free.
If, like me, you're a little lazy/rusty on your music theory then this plug-in is perfect. From just a single note, you can generate interesting chord progressions and sequences from any of your favourite synths and instruments. It's particularly handy when you're lacking inspiration or stuck writing the same kinds of musical progressions - a real cheat code!
As a Plug-in Collective member, you can also buy FrozenPlain's Wraith synth for $39, representing 30% off the full $59 price. Built for darkly cinematic sound design, Wraith lets you create spectrally rich pads, drones and textures via three independent layers, each drawing on a library of 230 sonically diverse samples and featuring its own filtering, modulation, EQ and looping controls, and all feeding into a bank of global effects including Distortion, Chorus, Delay and Convolution reverb.
Plug-in Collective members can download Obelisk for free from their Focusrite account, and claim their 30% discount on Wraith, between 18th June and 6th August 2020. To join Sound Collective and get your hands on exclusive free plug-ins and discounts on high-end software every two months, all you need to do is register any Novation product on the Novation website.
Plug-in Collective is a community hub that brings you, Focusrite and the most innovative software brands together. If you want to find great virtual instruments and effects, keeping up to date with the constant stream of new releases is essential, and Plug-in Collective makes it easy, with regular free software downloads and generous discounts on high-end plug-ins. To join Plug-in Collective, simply register any Focusrite hardware product, then look out for a new offer every couple of months. No one else works with software manufacturers like we do to bring you inspirational tools for your next production.
