Movie legends Jane Powell, Robert Wagner, Theodore Bikel and the Alloy Orchestra are some of the talent set to join a ship full of passionate movie fans aboard Turner Classic Movies third TCM Classic Cruise this winter. TCM hosts Robert Osborne and Ben Mankiewicz will also be on hand for the the special voyage aboard the Disney Magic, the Disney Cruise Line ship that ranked #1 in a Conde Nast Traveler 2013 Readers Poll.
Set to take place Dec. 8-13, 2013, the third TCM Classic Cruise will sail from Miami with stops in Nassau and Castaway Cay, Disneys luxurious private-island getaway. In addition to appearances by TCMs special guests, travelers aboard the TCM Classic Cruise will be treated to a wide variety of TCM-themed events and activities, including film screenings, panel discussions, in-depth interviews, Q&A sessions, trivia games and more. Jane Powell is best known for her delightful musical performances in the classics Royal Wedding (1951) and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954). A longtime friend and contributor to Turner Classic Movies, Powell was one of a handful of classic film stars to join Robert Osborne and Ted Turner in New Yorks Times Square on April 14, 1994, for the launch of TCM. She was also one of the networks first celebrity hosts and the subject of Osbornes very first extended on-air interview for TCM. More recently, she joined Leonard Maltin for TCMs Road to Hollywood screening of Royal Wedding in Boston this past March.
Robert Wagner is the ruggedly handsome star of such films as Beneath the 12-Mile Reef (1953), A Kiss Before Dying (1956), The Pink Panther (1964) and Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery (1997). He earned Golden Globe nominations for his television work on the series It Takes a Thief and Hart to Hart. In April 2013, Wagner joined Robert Osborne for TCMs Road to Hollywood screening of The Pink Panther (1964) in San Francisco. He previously served as a TCM guest host in 2011 and introduced two films at the 2012 TCM Classic Film Festival: The Pink Panther and the world premiere of 50th anniversary restoration of The Longest Day (1962).
Theodore Bikel has turned in memorable performances in such films as The African Queen (1951), My Fair Lady (1964) and The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming (1966), earning an Oscar nomination for his work in The Defiant Ones (1958). He is also known for his stage performances in the original Broadway cast of The Sound of Music and numerous productions of Fiddler on the Roof. At the 2013 TCM Classic Film Festival in April, Bikel was on hand for screenings of The African Queen and My Fair Lady.
Alloy Orchestra is a three-man musical ensemble that has written and performed live accompaniment to classic silent films for more than two decades. They have been a part of both previous TCM Classic Cruises and performed as part of the North American premiere of the restored Metropolis (1927) at the 2010 TCM Classic Film Festival and the world premiere of the restored Buster Keaton classic The General (1926) at the 2013 TCM Classic Film Festival.
