NewTek TalkShow Expands Poibilities for Election Coverage

(03/05/2015) NewTek's TalkShow video calling system has been used for the first time in Spain to enable journalists, experts and analysts from across Andalusia to offer daily video analysis of the recent election campaign. For 17 days and across 17 connections, El Pais, the leading Spanish newspaper, published high quality video interviews and reports from remote locations for its digital edition. LIVE! Audiovisual, the Spanish production services provider and reseller, managed the project.

When El Pais came to us with this project, we knew that it wouldn't be possible or practical to have a big production crew, so we opted to use TalkShow with Skype, said Nacho Galindo, Managing Partner, LIVE! Audiovisual. TalkShow is incredibly versatile and offers great potential. Journalists could use their own computers and a webcam, and send us their daily analysis in real time at high quality.

TalkShow is the only production system for live video calls that enables broadcasters to manage all aspects of a live Skype video call in the control room like any other video source, and adjust the visual and audio quality of each call. The low cost, integrated hardware and software solution is broadcast ready, offering dual channel Ethernet connectivity, two channels (1 in, 1 out) of HD-SDI I/O that includes reference signal, professional XLR audio support, Tally support and more. The 1RU system allows producers to easily incorporate TalkShow into any live production or studio environment.

The El Pais workflow was simple and efficient: each video was recorded by the journalists and experts via webcam using a Skype connection, and was then sent to a TalkShow device with a fibre connection to a TriCaster Mini system, located in Seville. The TriCaster Mini operator produced graphic elements and uploaded the video immediately to a dedicated FTP platform, enabling it to be published instantly in the digital newspaper.
