Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) today announced that its Media Delivery Network solution and plug-in media delivery ecosystem has been awarded the inaugural Best of Show: TV Technology award, presented by NewBay Media during the 2014 NAB Show in Las Vegas, 5th-10th April. The award honors a select group of industry-leading products exhibited at the show.

As TV Anywhere services become the standard, it is crucial that operator infrastructures become well-equipped to deliver escalating amounts of video at the rising level of experience that consumers demand, said Ove Anebygd, Vice President and Head of TV, Ericsson. As reported in Ericsson's latest Mobility Report, video is becoming an increasingly dominant force in network traffic, with an anticipated growth of 55% annually through 2019. In response to this, TV service providers must find ways to efficiently deliver this content to consumers, ensuring high quality of end services while maximizing profitability.

Media Delivery Network enables more dynamic use of operator networks, increasing service velocity and content value. The solution uniquely unites caching, optimization and acceleration, all within a single platform for delivery of all types of content (managed and unmanaged) over all types of networks (fixed and mobile). The converged solution offers significant cost-efficiencies in both OPEX and CAPEX and provides an ultra-intelligent framework that is service, access, content, device and user-aware.

MDN is also a revolutionary business solution which addresses the need to integrate operators into the entire content value chain though a first-of-its-kind partnership program for global CDNs (Content Delivery Networks). The integration essentially creates a plug-in media ecosystem for the operator MDN solution, offering a multi-service system that extends the global CDN deep into the operator's network. Content providers will benefit from a seamless delivery mechanism for reaching audiences on both a local and global level, opening up new revenue streams, and, ultimately, consumers will benefit from superior quality of experience.

The award is the second to be given to Ericsson at the 2014 NAB Show. The company was also presented with the prestigious NAB Technology Innovation Award for its pioneering work in Ultra High Definition TV (UHDTV) 4K.
