Volt Gen 2 & Volt Max interfaces from Universal Audio

Six new USB interfaces introduced

Universal Audio's USB audio interface line-up has just been refreshed, gaining six new models aimed at musicians, producers and podcasters. The Volt Gen 2 and Volt Max offerings come equipped with UA's Tone Shaping Preamps - the latter also includes onboard Max dynamics processing - as well as offering integration with LUNA and a number of other popular DAWs.

Built by the same team behind the renowned Apollo interfaces, the Volt Gen 2 range promise to bring the UA sound and workflows to an easy-to-use format. The new line-up all feature a Tone Shaping Preamp design that offers three switchable character modes: Warmth (Tube), Focus (Solid State) and Shine (British Class-A), and all models apart from the Volt 1 feature a full-colour Smart Display that offers detailed monitoring of each input's key parameters. An Auto-Gain function sets the optimal input level, and the interfaces will also automatically detect mic, line and instrument sources and configure themselves accordingly.

The Volt Max models then take things a step further with Max Processing, which offers a choice of six one-touch dynamics presets derived from UA's classic 1176, LA-2A and VCA compressor emulations. Processing takes place in real time without incurring any additional latency, and a range of compression presets aimed at different sources and styles are provided to get users up and running quickly.

Both the Volt Gen 2 and Volt Max are supplied with the UAD Volt Studio Bundle, a collection of 15 plug-ins that includes the LA-2A and 1176 compressors, Topline Vocal Tune, Showtime 64 and Lion 68 guitar amps, Anthem and PolyMAX synthesizers and UA's own LUNA DAW.
