ATG Danmon Completes System Relocation for UWE 26th October 2017

Bristol, South West England, October 26, 2017 - ATG Danmon announces the completion of a studio facility relocation project for the University of the West of England (UWE). Based at the UWE Bristol Bower Ashton site, part of City Campus, the newly constructed building houses broadcast-standard production and post-production facilities for film-making, animation and photography and is the latest development in a total refurbishment of all the UWE Bristol campuses.

A key element of the relocation was the need for flexibility in the project's timing, says ATG Danmon engineer Jon Brewer. We were able to mobilise a team to deconstruct and remove all the technical furniture and studio infrastructure within the nine days available before the old building was demolished.

Reinstating the system was achieved within four weeks while the new building was still being constructed. This again required very careful management as it was vital that everything was completed by the start of the new term. We also took great care to ensure all equipment was fully protected against dust ingress.

Facilities relocated include a three-camera studio, production control room, sound control room, two Avid Pro Tools audio dubbing suites, two Blackmagic Resolve video grading suites and a Foley area.

New cabling was largely prefabricated at our Letchworth headquarters to cut down onsite time, using new documentation which we created from UWE's wiring drawings of the former site. Some additional equipment was also provided and integrated, including SDI to HDMI interfaces.

This fantastic space will see staff and students working on industry-standard facilities to produce cutting-edge projects, adds Phil Chamberlain, Head of Department for film and journalism. With all these creative disciplines under one roof it's going to be exciting to see what collaborations and innovations are generated. We certainly plan on making it a worthy addition to Bristol's internationally-renowned creative industries.

The new building is now open for use by all students based on the City Campus, including journalism, fine art, illustration and graphic design students. It will be formally opened later in the academic year and is part of a development programme that will see £37 million invested in creative industries and around £300 million in UWE Bristol in totality.

The University of the West of England, Bristol (www.uwe.ac.uk), also known as UWE Bristol or UWE) began as the Merchant Venturers Navigation School in 1595 alongside the University of Bristol and University of Bath, before receiving its university status in 1992.
