Rohde & Schwarz provides solutions to two key challenges in ATC: Simultaneous Transmission Detection and migration to VoIP Munich, Mar 07, 2013 - At ATC Global 2013, Rohde & Schwarz will present a live demonstration of its field-proven, fully ED137-compliant, R&S VCS-4G IP-Based Voice Communications System in joint operation with its high-quality R&S Series4200 and R&S Series4400 radios for Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Air Defense. The R&S RCMS II (Remote Control & Monitoring System) will complete the advanced technology showcase by providing overall umbrella system monitoring. Highlights of the demonstration will be the company's Simultaneous Transmission Detection (STD) solution and the R&S VCS-Gateway.
STD is a long-standing but pressing problem in ATC. Innovative use of advanced DSP technology in the well-established R&S Series4200 radios now forms the basis for the Rohde & Schwarz solution to this problem, bringing an unparalleled degree of operational support and safety to the ATC operator's daily work.
To help Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) migrate to VoIP, the new R&S VCS-Gateway will be introduced into the R&S VCS-4G system architecture. It completes the extensive Rohde & Schwarz portfolio of gateways and interface options for upgrading the customer's installed base. The gateway enables smooth interworking of newer ED137-oriented and TDM-based voice communications system solutions and, additionally, common sharing of radio resources via VoIP. This integrated solution allows for flexible support of migration and integration scenarios and protects the customer's capital investment. The innovative R&S VCS-Gateway migration solution has already triggered considerable interest by ANSPs.
R&S VCS-4G is a fully IP-based, distributed, and highly reliable voice communications system with an extensive feature set for safe ground-air and ground-ground communication. It is ready to support next generation ATM requirements such as efficiency, asset sharing, and facility consolidation.
The R&S Series4100, R&S Series4200, and R&S Series4400 radios constitute a complete family of software-defined HF/VHF/UHF radios with leading performance and feature sets for secure and reliable radio communication.
From the very beginning, Rohde & Schwarz has been a key contributor in the standardization of VoIP technology for ATC in the EUROCAE ED137 context.
