Ben Feller to leave AP White House beat The following memo was sent to AP staff in Washington by Bureau Chief Sally Buzbee:

Colleagues,

It is with some sadness that I let you know that Ben Feller will soon be leaving the White House beat and our bureau in Washington. Ben plans to move to New York where his wife, Elisabeth, has a new job as an editor at the New York Times.

Ben is exploring his next options, including possibilities with news organizations including the AP in New York. In the meantime, he will continue to lead our White House coverage into the month of January.

Please join me in wishing him all the best in his next adventures. He will be missed personally and professionally by his colleagues in Washington.

Ben started on the White House beat in November 2006 during the Bush presidency and was named chief correspondent in August 2010. In 2010, he won the Gerald R. Ford Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency, the first AP reporter to do so. The same year, he also won the Merriman Smith Award for presidential reporting on deadline for his coverage of Obama's tribute to soldiers returning in caskets to Dover Air Force Base.

Ben joined AP in 2003 as a national education writer. He previously worked as a reporter for the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa.; the News & Record in Greensboro, N.C.; and The Tampa Tribune in Tampa, Fla. He is a 1992 graduate of Penn State and he and Elisabeth have a young son, Sam.
