Huffington Post, reddit to speak at News Xchange 0

Two more outstanding speakers from the world of news have confirmed their contributions to News Xchange 2013, taking place 13 15 November in Marrakech.

News Xchange, which is underwritten by EUROVISION, is an intensive conference that focuses on ideas, opportunities and challenges for the world's news industry. It brings together 500 executives, journalists, presenters, bloggers and start-up entrepreneurs from around the world to share, learn and cross-pollinate ideas with peers, experts, scientists, creatives and international thought leaders.

Huffington Post CEO Jimmy Maymann and the General Manager of reddit, Erik Martin, will be part of a session called "Non-Traditional Forms of Storytelling and Their Impact on the Industry", at 11:15 AM (WET) on 15 November. Produced by Sky News, the session will explore how new companies and innovations are challenging the status quo, and explain what organizations like the Huffington Post and reddit are doing about it.

In emailed comments to the EBU, Jimmy Maymann said the Huffington Post and News Xchange share a passion for insightful conversation.

We are in the midst of a global paradigm shift in the news industry and it has therefore never been more imperative to share learning, discuss different business models and to find ways to collaborate, he said. Im looking forward to joining News Xchange this year to try to push the conversation even further.

For his part, reddit's Erik Martin said News Xchange was a chance to explore the fascinating and chaotic together .

He added: I believe that reddit and other online communities are helping to transform the way news is reported and shared now, and that they offer a glimpse of where the future of news is going. Todays news consumers are extremely cynical, but also extremely hopeful and, above all, curious about the world. There is a growing audience that now expects to determine what is considered news, and to have their voices heard as part of the news-reporting process: they want everyone to have an opinion, but they also look for unbiased data.

Maymann and Martin will join keynote speakers Christiane Amanpour, of CNN, and Dr. Hans Rosling, a world expert on global development and one of TEDs most popular speakers.
