Modus FX in Shanghai

Modus FX announces its role in Shanghai's 2010 World Expo as the main visual effects provider on the stereoscopic project Oil Extending City Dreams. This stunning 3D short film depicting human civilization and urban development will be screened on a 3,600 square-meter cube-shaped corporate pavilion lit up by tens of thousands of crystal-like LEDs.

With Better City, Better Life as its theme, the 2010 World Expo will be held in Shanghai, China, from May 1st to October 31st, 2010.. Over 190 countries and 50 international organizations will be participating in the event, which is expecting visitors in the range of 70 million.

We were mandated with creating dynamic and striking visual effects to take visitors on a spectacular journey, commented Marc Bourbonnais, President of Modus FX. The directors and producers sought out Modus' innovative expertise in creature design and creating environments. We also provided on-set supervision in China to ensure that every last detail was covered.

The project required a horde of digital artists and technicians using a long list of software, including Autodesk Softimage and The Foundry's Nuke, and involving the creation of a multitude of ingenious tools, programs and techniques across a two-month period.

About the World Expositions

The World Expositions are a range of large public exhibitions held since the mid-19th century. They are among the largest events in the world in terms of economic and cultural impact. The first Expo was held in London in 1851 influencing and impacting society on all manner of subjects from art and design to international trade and relations, and even tourism. These universal public fairs usually last between three and six months.
