Multiple cameras and editing suites help the Croatian broadcaster get content to air and web faster

MONTREAL, June 28, 2016 RTL Telvizija serves viewers in Croatia with a wide variety of news, sports and entertainment programming. To prepare for the production of a new reality TV series called Big Brother, the station worked with Kapetanovi Sistemi, a Grass Valley premium solution provider, to purchase eight LDX 80 Flex cameras, six EDIUS nonlinear editing software suites and one Karrera K-Frame S-series 3 M/E switcher.

In discussing the decision to invest in solutions from Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, Silvije Safar, head of system services, RTL, cited the companys past experience with Grass Valley and Kapetanovi Sistemi and the power and flexibility of the technology. The cradle design of the LDX camera series makes it so easy for us to move cameras between studios as needed, which means we can get the most out of our investment and use the cameras exactly when and where we need them. The same is true with the Karrera switcher our operators love the rich features and the ability to configure it for our different needs.

RTL developed a complete file-based production system for capturing, proxy editing and craft editing, all from a central storage. With EDIUS software at the heart of the system and with XML/AAF cut-list import, the company is able to fully integrate the editing workflow with other parts of its production system.

Our whole post-production workflow is based around EDIUS, added Safar. We are editing media files linked to our online storage, which reduces production time. Also, our web department uses EDIUS for quick and easy editing and for posting clips to our website.

The LDX 80 Flex camera is perfect for single-format 1080i or 720p acquisition, where limited artistic tweaking is required.
