From Film Festival to Netflix - Acclaimed Thai Film DOI BOY' Launches Globally on November 24

Illegal migration. Sex work. Gay bar. DOI BOY, the Netflix film in collaboration with Neramitnung Film, shines a light on topics that few dare to discuss. Anticipation for the Thai film was so high that tickets to its world premiere at the recent Busan International Film Festival sold out in 10 minutes. To tell this untold story to an even wider audience, DOI BOY will be released only on Netflix on November 24.

Directed by Nontawat Numbenchapol, well-known for his award-winning documentaries, DOI BOY marks his first foray into the world of fiction. He also penned the screenplay, further solidifying his reputation as a versatile storyteller.

Taking on the role of Sorn, lead actor Awat Ratanapintha won his first-ever award-Rising Star Award in Marie Claire with BIFF Asia Star Awards 2023-for his nuanced portrayal of an illegal immigrant who ends up being a sex worker at a gay bar in Chiang Mai. When the bar closes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sorn scrambles to find other sources of income, made more challenging by not having a work permit.

Desperately trying to make ends meet, Sorn faces a turning point when Ji (Arak Amornsupasiri), a regular customer, offers him a deal that involves Wuth (Aelm Thavornsiri), an activist wanted by the government amidst local political turbulence and the mysterious disappearance of fellow activists. Sorn is once again left with no choice but to make a decision that will forever change the lives of these three men.
