The vibrant city of Johannesburg came alive as the curtains closed on the sixth edition of the Joburg Film Festival. Multichoice, in partnership with Absa, presented a cinematic extravaganza.

JOBURG FILM FESTIVAL The official awards ceremony at the Sandton Convention Centre illuminated the night. It celebrated the legends of storytelling from both local and international filmmakers.

The riveting Yellow Bus claimed the coveted title of Best Film. Shot across four countries, Yellow Bus immersed audiences in an intense narrative. Set against the sand-swept backdrop of an Arabian Gulf city, this intense narrative unfolded.

This year s celebration of stories at the Joburg Film Festival saw tributes to legends, awards to emerging talents, praise for Women in Film - and much, much more.

JOBURG FILM FESTIVAL CATEGORIES With its evocative setting and compelling storyline, Yellow Bus stood as a testament to the captivating power of cinematic storytelling.

For the Best African Film, the spotlight shone on the local South African production, Death of a Whistleblower.

Crafted by South African filmmakers, this gripping tale delves into themes of corruption, morality, and justice.

JOBURG FILM FESTIVAL STARS The film takes place against the contemporary backdrop of South Africa. It earned well-deserved recognition within the African cinematic landscape.

Opening the festival with energy, London Recruits clinched the prestigious Best Documentary award.

Directed by Gordan Main and brought to life by producers Jacinta De Nobrega and Robyn Slovo, this captivating documentary navigated audiences through the turbulent landscape of the 1960s. It shed light on a lesser-known chapter of history.

WHO I AM NOT The multi-award-winning documentary Who I Am Not, directed by T nde Skovr n, received a Special Mention at the Joburg Film Festival.

Set in Joburg, the film follows the lives of two intersex South Africans. It provides a voice to an underrepresented community.

The festival's jury, including industry giants like Tosh Gitonga, Nthati Moshesh, Dr Jerry Mofokeng wa Makthetha, Pape Boye, and Andrea Voges, ensured a fair evaluation.

EVERYTHING NOTHING The Joburg Film Festival also celebrated emerging talent through the Young Voices film competition. Ntokozo Mlaba won the title with the short film Everything Nothing.

As a reward, Mlaba received a bursary, an internship, and additional support from festival partner Absa for his crowdfunding project.

Q&A SESSION As the festival concluded with the screening of Snake, directed by Meg Rickards, attendees were invited to a Q&A session with the director at Nelson Mandela Square.

The Joburg Film Festival 2024 has not only shown exceptional films but has also started dialogue. It has nurtured the growth of the African film industry.
