Nedbank Cup semifinal results: Chiefs win thriller to book a place in final

Kaizer Chiefs will meet first-division outfit TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final after beating Chippa United in a six-goal thriller at Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

The Glamour Boys had to dig deep to produce a 4-2 victory after falling behind towards the end of the game, despite scoring first in the first half through Dumisani Zuma, who came on as an early sub after an injury to Kabelo Mahlasela.

The two sides went into the break with the visitors holding a slim lead, and it appeared that there would be no response from the Chilli Boyz; until just after the hour mark when captain Andile Mbenyane found the equaliser.

Seven minutes later, the hosts would take the lead through Lerato Manzini, and it looked as if the Soweto giants' semifinal hoodoo would continue until brought them level in the 76th minute.

It took Chiefs just another eight minutes to pull away, with Bernard Parker providing the third before a stunning strike from Khama Billiat put the result beyond doubt, booking Ernst Middendorp's men a ticket to Durban for the final.

Earlier TS Galaxy pulled off an upset to become only the fourth lower league outfit to make the Nedbank Cup final by beating Lamontville Golden Arrows 3-1 at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont near Durban.

Things were deadlocked at 0-0 until the 71st minute when Knox Mutizwa found the breakthrough.

It appeared as if that's how things would end, but the infanticide dirt-trackers coached by former Chippa mentor Dan Malesela would find inspiration in the dying moments.

Well into injury time, Galaxy drew level through the help of an Arrows player in Sandile Zuke, who found his own net to send the game into extra time.

With penalties looming, the second-tier outfit would find the net twice through Zakhele Lepasa, who unleashed two rockets to set a date with Kaizer Chiefs in the final.
