City iued heavy pollution emergency plan for schools

Ningbos education authorities released heavy pollution emergency plan for local schools this Tuesday.

According to the newly released plan, the education organizations including schools and kindergartens shall either stop extra-curricular activities or close schools according to the level of air pollution.

When faced with pollution weather, educational administrative departments, schools, kindergartens shall start the correspondent emergency response measures according to the atmospheric condition issued by the weather authorities.

When a yellow alert for heavy air pollution is issued, all primary and secondary schools (kindergartens) in urban districts shall stop outdoor educational activities and keep windows closed as much as possible. Routine physical activities may be continued indoors. Schools shall make appropriate adjustments to their teaching program and provide health guidance for school teachers and students. Schools shall strengthen daily sanitation checks and inspections and pay special attention to invalid students. Schools shall popularize self-protection education on heavy pollution. Schools shall maintain good contact with parents. When an orange alert for heavy air pollution is issued, all primary and secondary schools (kindergarten) in urban districts shall stop the outdoor educational activities and keep windows closed as much as possible. Certain physical activities may be continued indoors. When a red alert for heavy air pollution is issued, all primary and secondary schools (kindergarten) in urban districts shall be closed.

The new emergency plan works in line with the previously announced Ningbo Air Pollution Emergency Plan. The Municipal Education Bureau shall take correspondent action as soon as an air pollution alert is announced by Ningbo weather authorities. Schools and parents can take appropriate measures according to the level of air pollution alert. The Municipal Education Bureau will publish timely air pollution information via its official website and microblogging.

The emergency plan applies to all schools and kindergartens in Haishu, Jiangdong, Jiangbei, Zhenhai, Beilun, Yinzhou districts as well as Daxie Development Zone, the National Hi-tech Zone and Dongqian Lake Tourist Resort. Educational managements in other counties and districts as well as colleges and universities shall draft up their own emergency plans in reference to this document.
