The National Film and Video Foundation attends Tribeca Film Festival --

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture, along with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and The Association for Transformation in Film and Television (ATFT), are currently leading a South African delegation at the Tribeca Film Festival. The festival runs until Sunday, 26 April 2015.

This year over 40 South Africans will attend the Film Festival. It is with great pleasure to state that an NFVF funded short film, Necktie Youth, was selected to screen at the premier of the Tribeca Film Festival.

Necktie Youth, by first-time director Sibs Shongwe-La Mer, depicts a raw, unique, and captivating post-apartheid Johannesburg. Facing adulthood and forced to confront a changing society today s disaffected youth ultimately confronts a hard truth that can t be ignored.

Over and above the attendance of the film festival the NFVF will also be attending briefing sessions by the New York Consulate Office. These briefing sessions will also be attended by the SA Delegation, ATFT and the KZN Film Commission and will serve to share views on the branding and marketing opportunities to fast track the presence of South African film in the US Market. There will also be one-on-one meetings with the New York industry as well as meet and greet with the New York industry players.

The Tribeca Film Festival is well known for being a diverse international film festival that supports emerging and established directors. The Festival has screened over 1400 films from over 80 countries since its first festival in 2002. Since its founding, it has attracted an international audience of more than 4 million attendees and has generated an estimated US$750 million in economic activity for New York City.
