DCC Labs launches Freestyle digital TV software service

DCC Labs, a Digital TV software integrator and developer, specialising in STB and connected client software, is launching its Freestyle software service for TV operators and system integrators. The new service, which is being unveiled at TV Connect 2015 in London, represents a departure from the traditional industry approach of taking a pre-existing middleware product and shoehorning it into the individual operators requirements. Instead, the new service builds a hybrid client from the ground up, using open stack components based on HTML5 and QML to create a pre-integrated, optimised user experience.

Harnessing DCC Labs specialist expertise in building hybrid client stacks for STBs, Smart TVs and other connected devices, the new service is designed to deliver innovative new interactive services, alongside traditional broadcast services on both legacy and new hardware. The new service is totally hardware agnostic and comes complete with full lifecycle software support and the guarantee of a back-to-back contract for systems integrators.

TV Operators and Systems Integrators will also benefit from DCC Labs capability in ensuring that new software will run on both existing and legacy Set Top Boxes (STB), mobile devices and Smart TVs. This delivers significant Capex savings on hardware replacement alongside the associated costs with ripping and replacing legacy STBS. Providing a single point of contact and offering full lifecycle support, the new Freestyle service will also enable operators and integrators to benefit from a reduced Total Cost of Ownership.
