Pebble Beach Systems launches new configurations for its award-winning Stingray channel in a box at CABSAT 11 Mar 2014

Leading automation, content management and integrated channel specialist, Pebble Beach Systems, today announced the launch of a series of new configurations for its award-winning self-contained Stingray channel in a box at CABSAT. Stingray leverages Pebble Beach Systems' best-of-breed technology to deliver a full HD ingest and playout solution offering multi-format playback and mixed formats on the same timeline, and is now scalable for systems from 1 up to 6 channels, with redundant versions available for each configuration.
Based on Marina and Dolphin architecture
Pebble Beach Systems Sales Director, Tom Gittins, confirmed: Stingray is based on proven 64-bit client-server architecture, and incorporates the technology which underpins the highly flexible Marina enterprise automation platform, and the power and robustness of our Dolphin integrated channel device. In addition to hosting simple clip-based channels, it is designed to handle complex reactive channels featuring extensive live content and frequent schedule changes. The highly configurable user interface, coupled with powerful graphics and DVE functionality, combine to deliver a best-of-breed feature set at an affordable price for single site operations.
Flexible Redundancy Options
Each channel configuration can be supplied as a fully redundant system, with the redundant channels hosted in a separate server to safeguard channel delivery. Playlists are synchronised dynamically, with any manual intervention on the list being reflected in the mirrored list almost instantly. For further resilience, media can be automatically transferred from nearline storage to both a main and redundant system, and databases are mirrored across both systems.
Powerful Workflow Tools with SmartList functionality
Stingray incorporates Pebble Beach Systems' SmartList technology, bringing enterprise level playlist intelligence to the channel in a box environment. The playlist provides full flexibility of editing whilst on air, with edits possible even on the next clip to be aired.
Stingray's workflow capabilities set a new standard for channel in a box, with a comprehensive range of file imports from traffic interfaces, plus the ability to use an offline preparation list with a view of all available clips - both in transmission and nearline storage systems - to create on air schedules.
Detailed reporting is provided via AsRun statistics, featuring logging of user activity, and statistics on commercials via a traffic light indicator. Advanced QC functions allow for content to be ingested, reviewed in preview or on a high resolution decoder, and moved to nearline storage using pre-configured rules. Support for the automatic capture of live events is also offered via secondary record either for delayed playback, or for replay at a future point.
All primary, secondary and tertiary events in the playlist are automatically and continuously checked for availability and timing anomalies. QC status and classification of events are also checked to guard against unverified or inappropriate materials being broadcast.
Upgrade to full Marina automation and Dolphin integrated channel system
Any Stingray configuration can be upgraded to a full Marina automation system driving Dolphin integrated channel technology when the requirement to control additional third party devices arises, or to cater for larger channel counts. The expanded system will exploit the same host hardware, and a simple software upgrade will unlock the full functionality of Marina and Dolphin, with no need to retrain operators.
