The deployment in the 2.6GHz spectrum band TDD (Time Division Duplex) - includes products and solutions from the Ericsson Radio System portfolio and the Ericsson 5G Core portfolio, including 5G Evolved Packet Core.
Ericsson 5G technology will initially be deployed across at least 85 sites in five cities: Gda sk, d , Pozna , Szczecin and Wroc aw. The first commercial 5G services are expected to launch in the coming weeks.
Further deployment will follow the first phase. It is expected to ramp up further when 5G spectrum auctions in other bands are concluded in Poland.
The 5G network deployment builds on the existing Ericsson-Plus RAN and Core partnership.
Jacek Felczykowski, Member of the Management Board of Cyfrowy Polsat S.A. and Polkomtel, says: I am very glad that when the world is on the verge of the new revolution which is 5G, Plus is a leader again. 5G will soon become a reality.
Martin Mellor, Head of Ericsson Poland, says: Polkomtel Plus now joins the illustrious list of early global adopters who are deploying 5G. Ericsson is proud of yet again helping to create a piece of Polish telecommunications history and we will work together with Plus to bring the benefits of 5G to them and their customers.
Ericsson currently has 81 commercial 5G agreements and contracts with unique operators, of which 35 are publicly announced 5G deals, including 24 live 5G networks on four continents.
Ericsson employs about 2,000 radio technology engineers in Poland at R&D Centers in d and Krakow. In August 2019, the company announced an additional investment in the production of radio equipment in Tczew.
