Cisco Launches Validated Apprenticeship Programme in the UK IT networking is forecast to be one of the fastest-growing careers in the United Kingdom

On 21st March, Cisco will launch its validated apprentice programmes in the UK, in an evening event that will feature attendees from partners including Pearson, reseller Partners and the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS).

IT networking is forecast to be one of the fastest-growing careers in the United Kingdom, with more than 500,000 new entrants expected over the next five years. Cisco's apprenticeship programme, which incorporates CCNA and CCNP certification, is offering a step in helping candidates prepare for a career in IT networking.

In response to employer demands, the company is launching a new advanced and higher apprenticeship programme, which strives to develop a, qualified, and motivated workforce, utilising Cisco's industry leading certification programme. Once qualified, apprentices will be best-equipped to be able to provide the IT, business, and customer skills that an organisation requires.

The advanced programme includes a Cisco CCNA certification and the higher programme includes a Cisco CCNP certification which helps improve candidates' skill set and provide them with the ability to manage and optimise network systems. Ian Foddering, Chief Technology Officer, Cisco UK and Ireland commented, We have been aware for sometime about the increasing demand from our Partners and Customers for apprentices with a strong Cisco knowledge. So we are naturally delighted to be able to launch these programmes with NAS and Pearson. Results from Cisco's latest TechWatch report, demonstrated that training is a focus throughout the whole industry. Recruitment and skills development is a priority for 46 per cent of large companies in the year ahead, up from just 20 per cent in 2012.

Vic Grimes, Divisional Apprenticeship Director for the National Apprenticeship Service, London and the South East said: "Recognising and developing talent in sectors such as IT is vital to stimulating economic growth.The National Apprenticeship Service has worked with Cisco to develop the validated advanced and higher Apprenticeship programme and we want to work with other innovative employers to explore the full range of opportunities to secure the future of the IT workforce. Apprenticeships are a great way for young people and adult learners to earn while they learn in a real job, gaining industry recognised qualifications; and setting them on the road to success.For employers, hiring apprentices is a way of attracting new talent and developing a motivated, skilled and diverse workforce.

As part of the event, Cisco's latest round of internal apprentice graduates will be presented with their certificates by TeenTech CEO and technology reporter, Maggie Philbin at their graduation ceremony.

The Cisco sponsored apprenticeship scheme is a 12-month Level 3 advanced programme and a 24 month Level 4 Higher programme designed to provide well-trained employees to employers in need of networking and IT talent. The fundamental aim of the apprenticeship programme is to ensure the networking and IT workforce of the future are adequately trained and equipped to support organisations.
