Top three major candidates Chow, Ford, and Tory to participate
Live three-hour debate to focus on Toronto's traffic gridlock and transit system, as panels of undecided voters react live to the candidates' positions
At-home viewers can weigh in via live text voting during the broadcast
TORONTO (October 21, 2014) As Toronto nears the finish line of one of the most documented mayoral races in the country's history, CityNews brings voters their final opportunity to hear from the city's three major mayoral candidates with CityVote 2014 The Final Showdown. The three-hour special, hosted by CityNews anchor Gord Martineau and featuring the three major candidates Olivia Chow, Doug Ford, and John Tory airs Thursday, Oct. 23 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET on City, CityNews.ca, the CityNews app, and 680News.com.
Moderated by CityNews anchor Melanie Ng, the candidates' final televised debate will centre around Toronto's traffic gridlock and transit system issues, putting Chow, Ford, and Tory in the hot seat when panelists Royson James (Toronto Star), Cynthia Mulligan (CityNews), and John Stall (680News) plus a crowd of undecided voters react live to the candidates' positions.
This is an opportunity to not only hear from the city's three major mayoral candidates one final time, but for the people of Toronto and the GTA to make their voices heard and have their questions answered, said Dave Budge, General Manager for CityNews, Rogers. Our multiplatform coverage of this crucial debate ensures that all of our viewers have the opportunity to get the information they need before casting their votes on October 27.
At-home viewers can once again weigh in throughout the broadcast on who they feel is winning the debate via an interactive vote feature, as well as through Twitter @CityNews, and CityNews.ca, with real-time results featured on television and online. Torontonians and GTAers can also engage in the debate via the live studio audience, Twitter @CityNews, and online at CityNews.ca.
Plus, CityNews brings back the popular one-on-one format featured in the first televised debate back in March, as CityVote 2014 The Final Showdown once again gives candidates the opportunity to put each other in the hot seat by asking one question each to an opponent of their choice. Following the debate, Gord Martineau takes on the post-game analysis.
Further to CityNews's coverage, viewers can tune in to The Local Campaign on Rogers TV cable 10/63 leading up to the October 27 election for unrivaled coverage of the more than 400 candidates who have registered to run in the municipal election. Rogers TV is the only station providing all-candidate councillor debates for all 44 Wards in the city of Toronto.
