Netflix s A Futile & Stupid Gesture Starts Principal Photography Today

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 14, 2016) - Netflix, the world's leading Internet TV network, announced that principal photography has begun today on its feature film A Futile & Stupid Gesture in Los Angeles, California. The film, from the best selling 2006 book by Josh Karp, chronicles the life and career of National Lampoon co-founder Doug Kenney. It will be directed by David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer) and was adapted by Michael Colton & John Aboud (Childrens Hospital).

A Futile & Stupid Gesture stars Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth) as Doug Kenney with Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina) portraying Henry Beard, one of the other founders of National Lampoon.

Joining the cast is Martin Mull (Arrested Development) as an older Doug Kenney; Joel McHale

(Community) as Chevy Chase; Matt Lucas (Little Britain) as Tony Hendra; Thomas Lennon (The Odd Couple) as Michael O'Donoghue; Seth Green (Austin Powers) as Christopher Guest; Jackie Tohn (House of Lies) as Gilda Radner; Natasha Lyonne (Orange is the New Black) as Anne Beatts; Emmy Rossum (Shameless) as Kathryn Walker; Elvy Yost (The Catch) as Mary Marshmallow; Matt Walsh (Veep) as Matty Simmons; John Gemberling (Broad City) as John Belushi; Rick Glassman (Undateable) as Harold Ramis; Camille Guaty (Scorpion) as Alex Garcia-Mata and Jon Daly (Zoolander 2) as Bill Murray.

Peter Principato and Jonathan Stern are producing A Futile & Stupid Gesture for Principato-Young Entertainment and Abominable Pictures with David Wain, Michael Colton, John Aboud, Ed Helms, Ben Ormand, Sean McKittrick and Ted Hamm executive producing.

Doug Kenney co-founded the groundbreaking humor magazine National Lampoon in 1970, and went on to co-create the seminal movies Animal House and Caddyshack. His work was a major influence on subsequent generations of comedic writers and filmmakers.

Netflix will release A Futile & Stupid Gesture in 2017.
