The eThekwini Municipality will allegedly be spending over a whopping R25 million to host the 2023 South African Music Awards (SAMAS) which will be held at the Durban International Convention Centre over a two-day ceremony on 17 and 18 November, EWN reported.

ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY WILL ALLEGEDLY SPLURG OVER R25 MILLION HOSTING THE SAMAS According to the publication, the money will go into various purposes including catering and security, the municipality said.

The South African Music Awards (SAMAs) are held every year to recognize accomplishments in the South African recording industry. The event aims to honour and celebrate individuals and groups who have excelled in the relevant entry or qualifying period.

As per usual, the best female and male artists of the year, as well as the best newcomer of the year will be announced at the upcoming ceremony. The categories in the Best Rock Album, Pop Album, Adult Contemporary Album (English), R&B Album/ Soul Album, Hip Hop Album, Kwaito Album, Amapiano Album, Gqom Album, and more will also be announced at the 29th Annual South African Music Awards (SAMA29). Winners will be walking away with cash prizes varying from R10 000 to R25 000, and other prizes.

WHO ARE THE NOMINEES? MORE ABOUT THE EVENT Some of the most famous artists nominated at the 29th Annual South African Music Awards were announced at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani on 3 October. And, they include the late rapper AKA, K.O, Sjava, Kabza De Small, and DJ Maphorisa.

According to Music in Africa, speaking about the artists nominated at the upcoming event, Nhlanhla Sibisi, the Recording industry of South Africa (RISA) was quoted as saying, We commend their artistry, resilience and tenacity that have led to them rising to the top and positioning themselves to be in line for the highest music accolade South Africa can bestow on an artist
