2013 EURORADIO Jazz Competition has a winner: Kapok (The Netherlands), a young band with a promising bright future, unanimously selected by an international jury of jazz professionals and jazz festivals organisers on the night of June 29th.

Kapok are a brilliant trio (horn, guitar and drums) that search permanently for new sounds and rhythms. They define themselves as "free, wild and adventurous". On their music there is always plenty of room for improvisation, and their pieces on the stage always get a totally different interpretation than what one could imagine.

Jazzdag festival offered to the public a fantastic two days festival program The 2013 EURORADIO Jazz Competition finals marked the start of two weeks of jazz in Rotterdam with the festivals North Sea Round Town and North Sea Jazz. Around 15 European jazz festival organizers and some Dutch festivals will discuss and explore the possibilities for cooperation for an ETEP (European Talent Exchange Programme) for Jazz.

Additionally, the JazzDag conference took place on 28-29 June, assembling over 1000 jazz professionals in debates and workshops.

During the finals, taking place at the second day of the JazzDag in Rotterdam, Kapok and the other four finalists presented an adequate performance of 30 minutes at the beautiful venue of the LantarenVenster, allowing the audience to have an idea of what their musical world is about.

The EURORADIO Jazz Competition was launched in January 2013, in partnership with the Nederlandse Publieke Omroep/Radio 6 (NLNPO), the Dutch Foundation for the European Jazz Competition (EJC Foundation) and Buma Cultuur. With the aim of encouraging, promoting and making known young musicians in jazz ensembles through recording sessions, EURORADIO Member organizations were invited to present young jazz musicians as candidates, not over 30 years of age, with up to two ensembles per radio organization.

From tonight, EURORADIO Members will be available to broadcast the audio recordings of the competition. A pink offer with reference JM/13/07/02/01-06 has been sent out.
