Next-generation field editor for journalist/editors hits the road

13 September 2013: At IBC 2013 Quantel launched its next-generation field editor, the new Marco. Marco enables journalists and editors to take the fast and easy to use Quantel editing toolset out of the office and with them on assignment.

Marco runs on off-the-shelf laptops as a 64-bit application to deliver maximum performance. The thousands of journalists and editors who already use Quantel editors will find the new Marco instantly familiar: the GUI and toolset are exactly the same. For those new to the Quantel interface, it is simple and quick to learn, easy to use and includes all the editing and effects tools they will need.

Marco can access and download media from Enterprise sQ systems when network connections are available for working in the field. Comprehensive file I/O capabilities provide compatibility with existing file-based delivery systems.

In practice, journalist/editors will typically access and download relevant server-based media when a network connection is available, ready for editing together with locally captured media in the field. Marco supports all the major digital capture formats, including P2, XDCAM, GoPro and AVCHD. For applications requiring video output, Marco also supports the Thunderbolt powered AJA T-TAP for full 10-bit SDI output.

The new Marco will be available in October 2013, and will be a free upgrade for existing customers.
