KENNETH CORBETT OF CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS IS SCTE IP CHALLENGE CHAMPION FOR 2013

OCT. 22, 2013 (Atlanta, GA) Promoting engineering excellence through competition, the 2013 SCTE IP Challenge concluded Monday evening at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013 in Atlanta with Kenneth Corbett of Charter Communications prevailing over seven other contestants to become this year's champion, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announced today.

Sponsored by Cisco, SCTE IP Challenge 2013 began with qualifying rounds conducted in recent weeks leading up to last evening's live finals competition at Expo. Eight finalists competed here in a blended-style Jeopardy match that included traditional questions, router and CMTS configuration, and hands- on activities.

Corbett's strong performance during sudden death in the second of three rounds of competition last evening was the difference for the DOCSIS engineer, who works in Billings, Mont., and has been an SCTE member since 2011. The annual SCTE IP Challenge debuted that same year.

The SCTE IP Challenge was created to drive awareness among the SCTE membership of the importance of foundational Internet Protocol (IP) knowledge. The event has served to promote interest around the benefits of IP to the cable industry and to leverage thought leadership around IPv6.

The seven other finalists who qualified for and competed at this year's Expo were Chris Fore of Comcast Cable, Jamie Griffin of Full Channel Inc., Brian Hamrick of Comcast Cable, Chris Miranda of Comcast Cable, Brian Parker of Charter Communications, Brent Vannier of Comcast Cable, and Nick Williams of Comcast Cable.
