Matthews Studio Equipment Appoints Robert Magness Director of Marketing

This year, in addition to expanding their sales staff, MSE is excited about the newest addition to the Matthews family - Robert Magness as Director of Marketing.

Robert Magness might have excelled at writing at USC, but his heart was in the technical side. While getting his feet wet in the industry, he worked at Arclight Hollywood, the ultimate Networking job. Who knew that his fellow film-fans would become camera ops, actors, directors and writers?

His networking talents grew into sales expertise at EVS, then (after a little travel) he planted his feet firmly in L.A. - and settled with The Vitec Group, representing Manfrotto and Avenger Grip - first L.A. and then globally. He admits - his eye was always on Matthews - friendly competitors he says lightly.

Then came that opportunity, the old saying goes, if you can't beat them join them. At one of the most attended and fun post Cine Gear parties, Ed and Tyler Phillips took Magness on a tour of the new equipment production facilities. They weren't hiding that they're constantly creating new support to solve the ever-increasing range of challenges production presents, he says. I liked that. And wanted to be part of it.

Magness's mixture of on-set experience as a former PA and sales acumen was a perfect fit. It's been just a few months - and Magness is still finding his way. But I'm really excited about talking to anyone and everyone about MSE products, he enthuses. MSE is making all the gear and kits I aspired to have when I first started, because it was what the pros had.
