No Waterlogging in Some Old Residential Districts in Haishu District

It is learned from Haishu Urban Management Bureau on 12th, July that the heavy rainfall these days imposed no grave impact on old residential districts in Haishu District and water drainage in areas liable to waterlogging in the past were effective. Thanks to the waterlogging prevention, most old residential districts withstood the test.

Located in the downtown area, Haishu District has a large number of old residential districts, some of which have great difficulty in drainage due to its low-lying terrain and aged network of drains. To address this problem, Haishu District has exerted itself to improve the network of drainage through different methods.

Rain-sewage diversion makes great contribution to the old residential districts. 8 out of 20 residential districts involved in rain-sewage diversion programs this year are already under construction, including two residential districts in Haishu District. According to the latest data, construction of 27 out of 45 residential districts in Haishu District has already been completed up to now. It is planned that the rain-sewage diversion projects will have been carried out in half of the old residential districts in Haishu by the end of 2016.

Reconstruction has been carried out in 35 areas liable to waterlogging in 7 subdistricts including Ximen, Gulou, Yuehu, Jiangsha, Wangchun and Duantang said by a principal, in order to drain away surface gathered water, Haishu District has taken a series of measures including reconstruction of network of drains, enlargement of gutter inlets and paving a sub-base for certain road segments. More specifically speaking, the district adds new network of drains and gutter inlets for road sections lacking drainage facilities, paves a sub-base for low-lying road sections and replace pipes that are leaking, aged and fractured, renew and enlarge gutter inlets to ensure effective drainage. At present, reconstruction projects are close to the end and are expected to be completed before the major flood season in 2016.

Haishu District adjusts its measures according to varied conditions of residential districts. For example, it paved a sub-base for roads within the jurisdiction of XimenSubdistrict to drain water off during heavy rainfall.

Although the waterlogging in some old residential districts are somewhat inevitable, we can still alleviate the problem through some measures said a principal from Haishu Urban Management Bureau, at present, the efforts are paying off, on this note, Haishu District will sum up the experience to construct a better network of drainage.
