Voting Begins! Viewers will select winners in the Global Youth Video Competition to share solutions and ideas to meet the SDGs and tackle climate change

YouTube viewers around the world will decide which three film entrants will become the winners from this year's tvebiomovies' Global Youth Video Competition in three categories addressing the environmental emergency. The competition, which has attracted over 400 entries, encourages young people worldwide to share online their inspiring solutions and actions to meet the SDGs and tackle climate change through 3-minute films. The competition judges have now selected 60 shortlisted entries from 31 countries to go forward into the public voting stage and the films are now online for viewing. The top films will be showcased during the UN Secretary General's Climate Summit in New York in September and the three winners will attend the UN climate conference, COP25, in Chile in December as global youth reporters.

409 young people from across the world have entered inspiring films on their own ideas, solutions, local actions and green business initiatives into the 2019 competition covering three new categories: Balancing use of land for people and ecosystems, Nature-based solutions for food and human health, and Cities and local action to combat climate change. The competition partners with the three UN agencies set up after the Rio Earth Summit in 1992: the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, the Convention on Biological Diversity and UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Support was also received from UNDP /GEF Small Grants Programme and the Fondation BNP Paribas.

We've had a phenomenal response from right across the world which shows that young people are engaged, energized and acting now to fight climate change, protect biodiversity and regenerate land and habitats says Nick Turner of tve. Now, with the UN Secretary General calling a special climate summit in New York in September, it is time for governments and corporations of the world to step up and tell the truth about the challenge before us.

The judging panels, which include representatives from the UN agencies and supporters, have carefully selected 20 films for each category - these finalist films are now online for the viewing public to select the most inspiring film and share the project messages to the world.
