Winners of COP23 Youth Climate Video Competition Announced

Two young environmentalists whose films featured inspiring stories on the themes of climate resilient and friendly cities and oceans and climate change have been selected as the winners of the 2017 Global Youth Video Competition on Climate Change, part of tvebiomovies 2017. The competition is run by tve in partnership with UNFCCC as part of tvebiomovies 2017.

The winners, Adarsh Prathap from India and Younes Lamsaoui from Morocco, will travel to the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn in November and work with the communications team of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in covering the meeting as youth reporters. Their reports will be shared through tve s web and social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter).

The competition was launched in May by Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE), UN Climate Change secretariat, in partnership with tve and supported by the Global Environment Facility's Small Grants Programme, which is implemented by the UN Development Programme.

Two hundred and forty entries were submitted from young people in 94 different countries, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

UNFCCC Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa said: In Bonn, governments will advance work that is key to unlocking the full potential of the Paris Agreement. These negotiations must move forward with the well-being of all people in mind and with an understanding that action is happening around the world, but needs to go Further, Faster, Together. Our video competition is shedding a light on the many ways that young people are working towards a low-emission future that is resilient in the face of climate impacts.

The video Turning Green by Younes Lamsaoui shows how Marrakech in Morocco is dealing with climate change and, and showcases the work he has been doing as a primary school teacher to teach children about environmental issues.

In his video entry Let Mangroves recover , Adarsh Prathap talks about the importance of mangroves and the needs to protect them for biodiversity and the protection against rising sea levels.
