WRAL-TV s 05 Coats for Children Teleon Raises Staggering $0,000

The weather was balmy but WRAL viewers were thinking about the upcoming chilly temperatures during the 27th Annual WRAL-TV Coats for the Children Campaign. On Friday, December 11, 2015, generous viewers contributed a staggering $130,000 during the daylong telethon!

It was an amazing day! said WRAL-TV Director of Local Production Phyllis Parish, the Executive Producer of the Telethon each year. I was a little concerned about the unseasonably mild weather on Friday, but the warm temps didn't impact the giving at all.

The day kicked off in a big way.

From the start of our telethon at 6am, our viewers showed how much they care about those in our community who are struggling with basic needs, said Parish. And throughout the day, their generosity did not slow down a bit. In fact, we raised close to $50,000 during the 7pm half-hour special alone! That still gives me chills!

Thanks to WRAL viewers, many Triangle children in need will have warm coats, hats, gloves, scarves and more to face the winter. In addition, many children who would've woken up to an empty tree on Christmas morning will have toys to open.

It was a magical day in Studio A and outside on the snow plaza', said Parish. Everyone involved in the production of the Coats Telethon was energized by the Christmas spirit, the giving feeling, inside Studio A. It was a heartwarming day. And best of all, our latest grand total is $130,000! That money is going to help the Salvation Army reach many, many families in our viewing area. Sharing warm coats and new toys. Compassion in action. That's what Coats for the Children is all about.

WRAL-TV's Coats for the Children will be accepting donations both online and at drop-off locations until December 31st. Find out more about how you can contribute by going to WRAL.com and using the keyword Coats'.

Credit card donations can be made online now: wral.com/3956064

Text Coats to 41444 to make a secure debit/credit card gift of any amount.

Thanks to all of our viewers who are helping make Christmas special and winter warm for children in need in our community!
