SGL Carbon launches new battery felt for redox flow batteries

SGL Carbon is expanding its product portfolio with a new battery felt for redox flow batteries. The innovative electrode material, marketed under the name SIGRACELL GFX4.8 EA*, is characterized by its low electrical resistance and therefore enables optimum electron exchange with an increased surface area.

Redox flow batteries are becoming an increasingly important storage solution for renewable energy from wind and solar power. They are primarily used as stationary energy storage systems, especially in applications requiring large capacities, high cycle stability, and grid stability. However, because these batteries place high demands on electrode materials, battery felts, such as SIGRACELL GFX4.8 EA from SGL Carbon, are essential for efficient, long-lasting energy storage systems.

With this product innovation, we are responding to the increasing requirements in the field of sustainable energy storage, explains Sebastian Frommelt, Head of Product Management Fiber Materials in the Business Unit Graphite Solutions at SGL Carbon. Our customers benefit from the combination of two proven fiber technologies: Rayon and PANOX based C-fibers complement each other in their properties.

Impressive performance dataInternal long-term tests confirm the increased cycle stability of the new SIGRACELL felt electrode. After the usual initial stabilization phase, the material shows consistently high performance values over many charging cycles.
