Anonymous Philanropist Makes Large Donations on 5 Consecutive Years

Last Monday morning, staffers in Ningbo Charity Federation opened the mail to find a big gift: a 750,000 yuan ($123,502) anonymous donation. The donation came in registered letter with the signature of "Ranqi". Chen Haiying, Deputy Secretary-General of Ningbo Charity Federation recognized the donor the as soon as she saw the familiar handwriting on the envelope. It was from "Shunqiziran". Ningbo Charity Federation first received 50,000 yuan ($8,233)from "Shunqiziran" at the end of 1999 and another 200,000 yuan ($32,934) at the end of 2000. Since then, the organization received anonymous donation from the same donor every year, the amount varying from 50,000 yuan to 750,000 yuan. So far, the philanthropist has made a donation totaling 6.02 million yuan. "Shunqiziran" also made a number of donations to earthquake victims and poor families, making his donation exceed 10 million yuan ($1.65 million).

"Dear Shunqiziran, we respect your wishes to be anonymous, but we would like to know your suggestions on the usage of the money. If possible, please write to us," Chen Haiying said to the anonymous donor through the media this Tuesday. Though staffers have long been wishing to meet the donor for 15 years, they stopped looking for him 13 years ago to respect his wish to be anonymous. CCTV also reported the story of "Shunqiziran" on Tuesday's national news program "Xinwen Lianbo", or News Broadcast.

Wang Yuanzhuo, a journalist in Ningbo Evening News met a young woman who was likely to be "Shunqiziran" ten years ago in a post office. When she tried to confirm her guess, the woman only gave her a polite smile. Based on the incident, she wrote a report under the title of "Shunqiziran might be a young lady".

"It is not difficult for us to find Shunqiziran since the bank he transferred the money has HD camera, but we gave up the search," Chen Haiying said, "Shunqiziran once wrote a letter to us, saying "never do evil. Do good and not for fame. Let things be as they are (literal meaning of Shunqiziran in mandarin)." Since then, Ningbo Charity Federation stopped looking for the anonymous philanthropist.

Although the City Charity no longer looked for "Shunqiziran", the staffers publicize the usage of the donation through media every year. By the end of last year, 500 million yuan ($ 82.34 million)donated by "Shunqiziran" have been used in the construction of schools and aiding needy students.

As what the CCTV news story comments, there is no need to know who is "Shunqiziran" in the end. For a philanthropist who remains anonymous for 15 years, what he seeks is certainly not fame or fortune.
