JAN. 21, 2015 (Exton, PA) The objectives of Energy 2020, an ambitious program to achieve energy cost avoidance in cable telecommunications networks over the next five years, will command the agenda on the final day of the 2015 SCTE-Georgia Tech Management Development Program, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announced today.

Dan Cooper, vice president of critical infrastructure for Time Warner Cable, and SCTE president and CEO Mark Dzuban will be among the featured speakers who will discuss the steps cable is taking to counter an anticipated four-fold increase in energy costs to an estimated $4 billion by the end of the current decade.

Cooper will moderate a panel on Energy Metrics, Benchmarks, Performance, Tiering and Characterization, while Dzuban will deliver a luncheon presentation entitled "Managing Energy in Cable Networks: Energy 2020." Other panel participants will include Derek DiGiacomo, senior director, information systems and energy management program, SCTE, and Richard Von Scherr, director, technical facilities and critical infrastructure engineering/operations for Cox Communications.

Both the panel and the luncheon remarks will take place on the final day of the Monday through Thursday, March 9-12 SCTE-Georgia Tech program at the Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business. Energy 2020 brings together the collective vision and technology expertise of cable operators and the vendor community to achieve maximum customer uptime and enablement of cable network capacity growth via successful organization, customer and environmental energy solutions. The program is intended to create alignment on standards and operational practices, to drive design and implementation of equipment, and to create SCTE training resources that will enable workforce teams to optimize technology for maximum efficiency. SCTE Energy 2020 resources will be available worldwide through SCTE's global brand, the International Society of Broadband Experts (ISBE).

Now in its fourth year, the SCTE-Georgia Tech Management Development Program is a technically oriented curriculum that is geared toward high-potential, mid-level cable engineering and operations professionals. The program is designed to help participants to plan and execute projects and to manage in-house and external resources necessary for project success. Last year's class attracted a record turnout of 48 management-level professionals in Atlanta.
