Tight Spaces and Fast Moves Not a Problem for Yaque Silva-Doyle anks to Litepanels and Sachtler

Recently, Yaque Silva-Doyles company, Dos Rios Films LA, was hired to shoot video plates in-between a major stills set-up for an AT&T winter holiday shoot. We knew our set-up time was limited and we would be shooting in spaces that were already pre-lit, he says. We had to move quickly, and add additional fill to complement the lighting set up, mirroring the strobe contrast for the stills shoot. Thats where Silva-Doyles Sachtler Ace L tripod carrying a Canon 5d Mark III, a 24-70mm lens, and two Litepanels 1x1 LED lights came in.

The Litepanels 1x1 Bi-Colors allowed us to change colour temperature and move quickly, he says. All we needed to do was hook into the regular household 15 amp circuits and we were ready to go. We didnt need to change bulbs for colour temperature and were also able to make small adjustments in brightness on the fly. It was perfect for this kind of run-and-gun shooting set up.

The Sachtler Ace L lightweight 75mm ball head fluid tripod was also a worthy complement to this type of shooting. It is a complete cine-quality fluid head tripod all packed into a super lightweight tripod and perfect for small HD cameras, or in our case, high-end DSLR shooting, he says. The Sachtler tripod size, weight, and true fluid head quality is something that I have not yet seen on the market. When we are trying to emulate high-end HD cine camera work on a DSLR that is prone to a rolling shutter, the smooth pans and tilts of this head are very welcome.

Silva-Doyle also relied on Litepanels LED lights for the recent 48 Hour Film Project, where filmmakers from around the world are invited to submit projects completed within 48 hours. My good friend Joe Shapiro and I co-directed a short thriller, Silva-Doyle explains. We knew we had to move quickly yet get high-quality lighting. At one point we shot two undercover cops walking into a dark warehouse, he continues. One of the cops is holding a flashlight. In order to sell the scene, we needed the hand-held light to be small enough to look like a flashlight but bright enough to really shine in the dark. The Sola ENG achieved this perfectly. Again, we couldnt have pulled this gag off without the Litepanels Sola.

The video plates and Dos Rios still images shot for AT&T will be seen on the company website this winter holiday season.
