Music and Film experts assemble for Sensoria 2013 Join the industry day at Sheffields music, film and digital festival

BAFTA-winning sound recordist Chris Watson will be speaking at SensoriaPro 2013SensoriaPro is the industry-focused strand of the larger Sensoria Festival, the UK's annual festival of music, film and digital which returns to Sheffield for its sixth edition this September.

The SensoriaPro Industry Day on Friday 27 September features guest speakers including Gavin Friday, composer for Romeo+Juliet and Moulin Rouge; Chris Watson, major contributor to Soniccoutures Geonsonics instrument and BAFTA-winning factual sound recordist; and musician, producer and multi-instrumentalist Nitin Sawhney.

Press Release: Some of the UKs best minds in music and film will be putting their creative heads together in Sheffield this September at a unique gathering for professionals and emerging talent.

The SensoriaPro Industry Day on Friday 27 September features an array of activities and informal networking for composers, labels, filmmakers, agents, managers and more.

Guest speaker Gavin Friday will discuss his compositions for film and media, including In the Name of the Father, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge, plus Blood Rising and Anton Corbijn documentaries.

Chris Watson, one of the world's leading recorders of wildlife and natural phenomena, will give an illustrated talk with four-channel surround sound about his field recordings for the major installation Inside the Circle of Fire. A freelance recordist for film, TV and radio, Chris has worked with David Attenborough and won commissions from the Louvre, the National Gallery and the British Film Institute during his fascinating career.

Musician, producer and multi-instrumentalist Nitin Sawhney, who has worked with a dreamlike list of names from Paul McCartney to Nelson Mandela, will be in conversation about his latest adventure. His album ONE ZERO, was recorded direct-to-vinyl and features Joss Stone.

For the most active SensoriaPro delegates, the Scoring Contest and Sync Panel is an exciting opportunity to score music to a new film trailer. Submissions will be critiqued by a panel of industry experts from Sony Music, Create Advertising and Kobalt Music Group.

Other expert-led discussions on the day will look at record labels, music publishing and music blogs.

The industry day is part of the wider Sensoria Festival, the UK's annual festival of music, film and digital which returns to Sheffield for its sixth edition this September. Previous speakers at the SensoriaPro event have included Feargal Sharkey, Martyn Ware and Mary Anne Hobbs.

Jo Wingate, festival director, said: The industry day is a really valuable part of the wider festival. All kinds of people in the film and music industries attend year on year and weve had fantastic feedback from them each time. Its a really great opportunity for new talent and established professionals alike to connect and learn from each other.

Musical performance highlights of the festival include the world premiere of Now Will You Listen!, an audio visual book of short stories created by musician Mick Somerset Ward with Dean and Jarrod of I Monster. The film programme includes a Drive-In cinema in the city centre, a Dive-In' outdoor pool screening and exclusive premieres at the Showroom Cinema. Digital projects include Uncommon People, a family tree style website that illustrates the breadth of the Sheffield music scene and the Sheffield Music Map smartphone app.
