Super capacitor sets off a new energy revolution for Ningbo

On the morning of December 30, the ground-breaking ceremony of the global R&D base for super capacitors of CRRC New

Energy Technology was held, marking the start of a new revolution for energy use in Ningbo.

Reportedly, with a total investment of 1.8 billion yuan and an upfront investment of about 500 million yuan, the project will be conducted in several phases. The first phase, with an investment of 199 million yuan and a construction area of 35000 square meters, will be completed and put into operation in February 2018. In addition, a state-level super capacitor research center and a state-level lab will be built, making the base an internationally advanced smart manufacturing plant.

Ningbo CRRC New Energy Technology Co. Ltd. is an important subsidiary of the Zhuzhou CRRC Investment Holding Co. Ltd.

Since its foundation in 2012, the company has developed the products and industry of super capacitors for tram and trolley, with its technology taking the lead in the world. So far, a platform for super capacitor technology, market and talents has been built, attracting a large number of prominent academicians and leading experts from home and abroad to form the expert commission. The base has developed the completely independent intellectual property for super capacitors, and it has achieved a dominant power and a strong say in the super capacitor industry in the world.

In November 2016, the first set of 1500V subway energy storage device developed by Ningbo CRRC New Energy Technology

was put into operation at the metro system of Guangzhou. By saving1500kw/h electricity daily, it serves as a new solution for the regenerative braking energy application devices for urban rail transit. The 60000F super capacitors developed by the company can provide for the 20km running of electric buses with six to eight minutes charging, and can save over one third of electricity than the regular electric buses.

Besides, based on the core technological platform for super capacitors, Zhuzhou CRRC Electric Locomotive Co. Ltd. has

developed the super capacitor energy-storage for tram, and the system has been put into business operation in such cities as Guangzhou and Huaian. Meanwhile, it has started the Zhejiang CRRC Tram Co. Ltd. in Ningbo, and launched the tram routes of No.196, No.306, No.330 and No. 177. The whole vehicle was even exported to Graz of Austria.
